Understanding couples therapy

Unlocking the Dynamics

Couples counselling sets itself apart from individual or group therapy by offering a unique
structure. While individual therapy centres on one person, couples therapy divides attention between partners. This approach provides a balanced opportunity for self-discovery, enhancing understanding and strengthening the relationship.

Timing and Accessibility

Couples Counselling isn’t the last resort; it’s beneficial at any relationship stage. Accessible to all, it dispels the misconception that it is exclusive to certain situations.

Important Considerations

Recognise that the couple’s counsellors are not fixers of the relationship. The effectiveness hinges on the commitment, effort, and intent of both partners.

Partner Willingness

Results may be limited if both partners are unwilling to participate. Communication and
mutual commitment significantly influence therapeutic outcomes.

Beyond the Session

While counselling sessions lay the groundwork. Committing to practising learned skills outside therapy sessions is crucial, even in challenging times, and is essential for lasting change and relationship Improvement.

Realities of Therapy

Couples therapy isn’t a guaranteed fix. Honest communication with the therapist and partner enhances the therapeutic process.
