Anxiety & Overthinking

Anxiety & Overthinking: In today’s high-paced and ever changing world, many people can feel under pressure of constant worrying and anxiety (feeling nervous, fearful or even panicky about various things that are happening or might happen in the future). However, anxiety can be successfully treated and we are absolutely here to help. By applying the strategies of the best evidence-based therapies, we can help you to recognize unhelpful thinking patterns, develop more helpful ways to cope and, therefore, find some peace of mind.

Depression - diagnosed or not

Depression is a mental health illness that can impact many areas of person’s life and leave them feeling emotionally drained, unmotivated, physically incapacitated and overall dysfunctional and helpless. However, depression IS treatable and we can provide some evidence-based therapies and therapeutic methods that can successfully confront this state of being and help you reconnect with your true self and the world.

Relationship & Divorce Counselling

Not all relationships are meant to last forever. Sometimes, too many challenges or pressures may push people away from each another to the point when separation and/or divorce may seem the only possible solution. This is not an easy process and people can feel filled with resentment, disappointment or emotional burnout. We can assist you in processing difficult feelings, finding practical solutions and releasing some of this pressure in the safe and confidential counselling space.

Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse

Domestic violence is imbalance of power and control between two partners or ex-partners, in which one partner feels “controlled” or manipulated into doing things in order to avoid partner’s physical or psychological violence. Every person has right to have their freedom, respect and dignity. If you feel you are the victim of your partner’s power and control (emotionally, physically, sexually, socially, verbally, financially or spiritually), please reach out and talk to someone who is safe and whom you can trust. We are here to listen and to provide emotional support while fully respecting your privacy and confidentiality.

Marriage Counselling

Every marriage can sometimes face challenges in life that could feel very stressful and emotionally draining for one or both partners. Marriage counselling can help couples reassess their mutual goals and strengths and use those strengths and other strategies to empower their relationship.

Personal Development

Increasing number of people is becoming aware of a tremendous value of personal development—investing in yourself and striving for a truly satisfying and fulfilled life. This is, however, a lifelong journey with many barriers on the road. We can help you develop some helpful strategies such as recognising internal and external obstacles and overcoming some of the most common challenges so you could keep progressing towards your personal growth and development.

We recommend that the first one or two sessions are longer sessions

Gabriela

I use integrative approach to counselling grounded in Rogerian person-centred therapy, which means that you can expect me to be authentically present in the session with you, while utilising reflective curiosity to collaboratively explore the themes that have arisen for you in-session and your daily life. Together, we will explore the past to inform the present moment, and draw on your values and strengths to build resilience in overcoming current or enduring difficulties and stress. The techniques I use stem from my professional interest and experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy techniques, (self-)compassion and loving-kindness practices, and psychodynamic approaches. Additionally, I have a Level 1 training in The Gottman Method, which is an evidence-based approach to couples counselling. I have experience working with couples and adult individuals, working through interpersonal conflicts and authenticity in communication, processing grief and loss of different nature, and supporting care partners of people living with dementia. I hold a registration with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). My professional qualifications consist of a Bachelor of Counselling degree, followed by a Master of Adult and Continuing Education, and a Master of Mental Health with specialisation in Psychotherapy. I am currently completing a PhD program in Psychotherapy at the University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine, specialising in psychotherapy to manage anxiety symptoms in people living with cognitive impairment and dementia. While I come from understanding applied clinical research and practice, I appreciate your individuality and needs, and will invite you to join me in navigating the course of our sessions to your perceived benefit.
